Mozilla has resolved a serious crashing issue in the Firefox browser that directly affected some Windows users. The new update, released with version number 140.0.2, prevents sudden shutdowns, especially when the browser is opened. The update was released immediately after the recently distributed versions 140.0 and 140.0.1.
Mozilla has fixed Firefox’s crashing problem
The technical definition of the problem is defined as “Bug 1974259”. When users tried to start Firefox, they encountered error messages such as “ERROR_INVALID_HANDLE” or “ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER”, and the browser would completely close after a few seconds. According to Mozilla developers, this situation is caused by an incompatibility between the feature known as “Exploit Protection” in the Windows security system and Firefox.

Although Exploit Protection is usually associated with advanced security configurations, this setting is enabled by default in applications downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Therefore, the crashing problem was more common among users using the Store version of Firefox. Mozilla evaluated the error in this context and shaped the update accordingly.
With version 140.0.2, Firefox started to work in compliance with Windows’ security measures. The update ensures that the browser works stably regardless of the installation method or the source from which it was downloaded. Mozilla also integrated additional checks with the version to prevent such system-based conflicts from occurring in the future.
Firefox users can manually update their browsers by following the steps Menu – Help – About Firefox. With this version, Mozilla not only provides increased stability, but also re-establishes Firefox’s reliability, especially on systems that are sensitive to Windows security protocols.
