MSI has expanded its portable game console Claw series with a new model. The MSI Claw A8 with Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU is now available for pre-order in China. The device, which draws attention with its hardware and connectivity features, makes an ambitious entry into the competitive mobile gaming market with its WiFi 7 support and 120Hz display.

MSI Claw A8 is officially on sale

The Claw A8 comes with an 8-inch IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1200. The display offers a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, and 100% sRGB color gamut support. Variable refresh rate (VRR) is also supported. The device can be configured with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM and offers up to 1TB of PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD storage.

On the hardware side, AMD’s new generation Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor is featured. This APU comes with a total of 8 cores and 18 threads, 3 Zen 5 and 5 Zen 5C. The Radeon 880M based on the RDNA 3.5 architecture is used as the graphics unit. There are a total of 16 compute units in the GPU. In addition, the 50 TOPS capacity XDNA 2 neural engine that supports artificial intelligence applications is also part of the system.

Another striking feature of the Claw A8 is WiFi 7 support. MSI had previously announced at the Computex event that the device would come with WiFi 6E, but the model offered for sale in China is directly released with WiFi 7.

Bluetooth 5.3 is also supported. On the connection side, there are two USB4 Type-C ports, Thunderbolt 4 compatibility, DisplayPort and Power Delivery 3.0 features. The system also includes a microSD card reader.

The device’s sound system consists of two 2W speakers. It has DTS audio processing technology and Hi-Res Audio support. There is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the power side, a 6-cell, 80 Wh lithium-polymer battery is used. The device’s hardware also includes a 6-axis IMU sensor, vibration motor, and fingerprint reader.

The Claw A8 measures 299.5 x 126.2 x 24 mm and weighs approximately 765 grams. Users are offered two different color options: “Polar Tempest” and “Neon Green”. The official sales price of the Claw A8, which is available for pre-order, was announced as 6,999 yuan. However, this price can drop to 5,949 yuan. This corresponds to a price tag of approximately $970.
