Google is taking significant steps to keep up with the iPad in the tablet market. The company is now working on a new feature that will radically change the Android tablet multitasking experience. This innovation aims to make split-screen use much smoother.
How will Android tablet multitasking change?
This new feature, discovered in Android 15 Beta versions, is called the “enhanced taskbar.” In the current system, multitasking requires opening an app and then dragging a second app from the taskbar. However, the new system reveals a menu (dock) that slides from the bottom of the screen.

With this new menu, users can easily drag another app to the right or left of the screen while in any app. This drag-and-drop feature will instantly launch split-screen. This will make switching between apps or using two apps simultaneously much more intuitive.
According to leaked information, Google is also working on a feature called “saving favorite app combinations” (app pairs). This allows you to open two frequently used apps in split-screen mode with a single tap. This feature isn’t yet live in Android 15 Beta 3.
This innovation, discovered by Mishaal Rahman, is reportedly being kept under wraps. Google will likely officially announce this feature with the Pixel Tablet 2 or in the stable version of Android 15. This move is seen as part of Google’s effort to compete with Samsung DeX and iPadOS.
