NASA is incorporating artificial intelligence into space exploration. According to a statement from a US agency, a ChatGPT-style assistant has been developed to enable uninterrupted communication between astronauts and spacecraft. This technology will allow astronauts to make changes during experiments and receive real-time alerts.
NASA plans to use the ChatGPT-like assistant
NASA plans to use the ChatGPT-style assistant for the first time in the Artemis lunar mission. The Lunar Gateway will provide a platform for various scientific experiments, research activities, and human missions to the lunar surface. The assistant will be deployed to the Lunar Gateway on the Moon.
According to NASA’s announcement, integrating the ChatGPT-style assistant into the Lunar Gateway will help astronauts receive advice without the need for complex manuals. Additionally, the assistant will manage various systems when the Lunar Gateway is unoccupied.
Dr. Larissa Suzuki, a NASA researcher who commented on the matter, stated that this tool will automatically resolve data transmission issues. By leveraging the ChatGPT-style assistant, problems can be addressed without human intervention.
NASA will carry out the Artemis II mission in November 2024. Artemis II will pave the way for the first crewed lunar landing since the end of the Apollo program in 1972 and ultimately establish a permanent NASA presence on the Moon.
