Developed by 2K Games and widely regarded as the sole basketball simulation game, the NBA 2K series has been a hot topic in the gaming world with the recent release of NBA 2K25. However, the famous developer is currently facing an unpleasant situation. Here are the details…
NBA 2K25 Can No Longer Sell VC in South Korea!
NBA 2K25, the latest installment in 2K and Visual Concepts’ popular basketball game series, is facing a significant change in South Korea. The game’s developers have announced that, due to the country’s mandatory disclosure policy for probability-based product information, they are forced to remove VC (virtual currency) packages from the game in South Korea.
In the South Korean version of NBA 2K25, released on September 6, 2024, the card packs that could previously be purchased with VC in MyTEAM mode are no longer available. While players in other countries can still buy these packs without issue, South Korean users now only see items that can be purchased with another in-game currency called MT (My Team Points).
This change has left players who purchased the more expensive All-Star or Hall of Fame editions—30,000 to 90,000 Won more expensive than the Standard Edition—confused about what to do. These versions come with 100,000 VC, but since card packs in MyTEAM mode are unavailable, the VC can only be used in MyCAREER mode. This has led some players, particularly those not interested in MyCAREER, to question the value of the higher-priced editions.
The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism made amendments to the ‘Game Industry Promotion Act’ on March 22, 2024, making it mandatory to disclose information about probability-based products. All games, including those developed by foreign companies, are required to provide this information for any product that is not completely free of charge.
Publishers who do not comply with these regulations may face corrective measures. Non-compliance or incorrect disclosures could result in up to two years of imprisonment or fines of up to 20 million Won.
