Netflix’s massive $82.7 billion acquisition is fundamentally changing not only Hollywood but also the gaming industry. Official statements and company spokespeople confirm that Netflix’s Warner Bros. Games division is also included in the deal. This move significantly strengthens the streaming giant’s position, which has struggled in the video game market.
Mortal Kombat and Batman developers are moving to Netflix
The most crucial aspect of the deal was the fate of Warner Bros.’ legendary game studios. A Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson confirmed the inclusion of the game division. This announcement means that NetherRealm, creator of the Mortal Kombat series, Rocksteady, developer of the Batman: Arkham series, and TT Games, creators of the LEGO games, are now under the Netflix umbrella.

Netflix, which had previously struggled to enter the gaming industry but failed to achieve its desired impact, now owns a well-established and globally successful gaming empire.
Interestingly, Netflix co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos focused primarily on Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and the HBO library during their press conferences. The Netflix Warner Bros. Games detail was glossed over in presentations, with only a brief glimpse of the “Mortal Kombat” logo. However, behind the scenes, it’s clear the company views its gaming division as a key component of its “cost savings and growth” strategy.
This massive merger is expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals and regulations. Netflix is targeting annual cost savings of $2 billion to $3 billion during this period. It remains to be seen how game studios will be affected by these cost-saving measures, or whether Netflix’s mobile-focused gaming strategy will shift to consoles.
