Amazon prepares for a big change with new Alexa devices
Amazon is preparing to launch the next generation of Alexa devices, taking a big step forward in voice assistant technology. In an interview with Bloomberg, the company’s CEO Andy Jassy said the devices coming this fall will stand out in terms of both design and functionality.
This development is directly linked to Amazon’s recently announced Alexa Plus, a new AI-powered assistant. Alexa Plus will go far beyond the standard Alexa experience, offering a more natural and intelligent conversational ability.
With Alexa Plus, users will be able to call Uber, find concert tickets and benefit from a much wider range of services. However, this new service will not be available on every Alexa device. Especially the older generation Echo models will be deprived of this feature. The Alexa Plus subscription fee will be $19.99 per month, but Amazon Prime subscribers will be able to use this service at no additional cost.
Panos Panay, Amazon’s head of electronic devices, also gave important hints about the new Alexa. Panay stated that they attach great importance to devices with screens and hinted that the company will invest more in smart assistants with screens. As a matter of fact, the company’s launch of the new generation Echo Show device, which attracted attention with its 21-inch screen last year, is considered as an indicator of this strategy.
