As Rockstar Games continues its work on the globally anticipated GTA 6, there’s a great deal of impatience in the gaming world. However, one modder is making the most of this long wait. A developer with the username FV Mods has released massive map add-ons that transform GTA 5 into a completely different universe with the release of new packs.
San Andreas expands: A new universe has been created with GTA 5 mods
The content added to the game as part of this project transcends the standard Los Santos borders and reaches an international level. First, a fictional region called Oldburries, reflecting the atmosphere of rural Canada, featuring vast farmlands, pine forests, and small-town life, has been added to the game. This region promises players a different experience, far removed from the chaos of the main map.

Shortly afterwards, the island of Largo Hillio, connected to the existing map by a giant suspension bridge, was added to the project. This island possesses both a national park atmosphere and racetrack-like roads. In the final phase, a massive eight-lane European highway called the European Freeway Project was integrated into the game.
The most striking aspect of these mods is that they all work seamlessly at the same time. Players can load these three different regions simultaneously, traveling across continents in a single flight. It’s now possible to take off from Los Santos on a stolen plane and land in a quiet Canadian town you never expected.
The developer, who explained the project on the Nexus Mods page, stated that they wanted to expand the world in a way that Rockstar didn’t officially do. FV Mods emphasizes that just because the game is 10 years old doesn’t mean the map has to be outdated. While GTA 6’s delay and release date are still under discussion, community efforts like this offer players an expanded world to explore before Vice City.
What are your thoughts on modders undertaking such large and comprehensive projects in the gaming world? Do you use these map add-ons that extend the life of GTA 5, or do you prefer to remain faithful to the original game’s structure?
