CATL, one of Tesla’s largest battery suppliers, announced that it has developed new battery technologies that will significantly increase the charging speed of electric cars. CATL Chairman Robin Zeng made the first statements on the subject. So how will this affect Tesla vehicles?
CATL will double the charging speed of Tesla vehicles with the new battery
CATL Chairman Robin Zeng announced that the company is working on new electrochemical batteries that will enable faster charging. With these batteries, Tesla will be able to compete with battery technology from Chinese companies.
Industry analysts think that the batteries CATL is referring to are probably the M3P battery, which has been in development for two years. For those who don’t know, M3P batteries have a higher energy density than standard lithium iron phosphate batteries. They also have faster charging capability and lower cost than triple batteries.
CATL scientists have suggested that the M3P can be fully charged in just 15 minutes. It can also provide electric cars with a range of more than 700 km.
This development has actually recently entered the testing phase in China. Li Auto, a Chinese battery manufacturer partnered with CATL, introduced the Qilin battery, which it claims is ultra-fast. The company said that Qilin can give the car a range of 500 km in just 12 minutes of charging.
CEO Zeng stated that the battery capacity at the Gigafactory will expand thanks to Tesla’s CATL productions. Let’s see how the new batteries will affect the charging time of the vehicles.
