The first comprehensive gameplay video for the fourth game in the Mafia series, Mafia: The Old Country, has been released. This nine-minute video gives a clear idea of the game’s general structure and gameplay dynamics. The footage shared by IGN revealed the atmosphere that awaits players in the new installment of the series.
The Mafia series returns to its roots
The Old Country takes the series from America to Italy. The return to the lands where the mafia was born is presented with a cinematic narrative that reminds us of the atmosphere of the first game. One of the striking aspects of the game is that, unlike the third game, the open-world structure has been abandoned.
Instead, a more linear story has been preferred, as in the first two games. This preference aims to both preserve the integrity of the narrative and offer the player a focused experience with a clear beginning and end.
Hangar 13 is again in the developer’s seat. The studio, which previously tried a different direction in the series with Mafia III, has this time produced a production that focuses on storytelling and has a more controlled tempo. Another striking point in the published images was the tempo and atmosphere of the game.
The production combines classic mafia narratives with cinematographically strong scenes. A visual world that transports the player to 1920s Italy has been established with character animations, lighting and environmental details.
The fact that the game stays away from the open world structure also means an experience that can be completed in a shorter time. This situation is also reflected in the pricing policy. The Old Country has a price tag of $49.99 on Steam. This price, which is below the AAA game standard, was determined in parallel with the content duration of the production. It was announced that the console version will be on sale for approximately 1950 TL in Turkey.
Mafia: The Old Country will be on the market for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms on August 8, 2025. PC users will be able to play the game both on Steam and with GeForce Now support.
