Stunningly detailed rumors about the new Tomb Raider game have emerged. We learned that Crystal Dynamics’ last Tomb Raider game at Epic’s State of Unreal event in 2022 would be the first game in the series to run on Unreal Engine 5. This raised expectations, but we didn’t know much about it at the time. A source named V Scooper has now shared a lot of information about the game in a series of tweets. We will summarize the rumors for you below.
The new Tomb Raider will be open world, feature allied teams, non-lethal combat mechanics and more
The first thing V Scooper mentioned is that the game will be a full open world game and will be set in India. Therefore, Lara will be able to use various modes of transportation such as motorcycles, parachutes, etc. to travel around the country.
V Scooper later gave more details about the setting. We were told that Lara would be mostly in Northern India, exploring the ruins of the Ashoka Empire in the aftermath of a natural disaster or apocalyptic event. Lara will then have to contend with the Society of Raiders, a society of treasure hunters who are inspired by Lara’s own exploits but are not guaranteed to help Lara.
According to V Scooper, the Society will be linked to a new feature that allows you to recruit allies and create teams to help you fight rival treasure hunters and fulfill your missions. So there will likely be non-lethal combat options, as you’ll be able to recruit people you’re fighting.
A timeline for the game’s release is currently planned for within a year. This time frame is not guaranteed but V Scooper suggests that this game is quite advanced in terms of its development and we won’t have to wait too long for its release.
However, if this is the same Tomb Raider that was announced in 2022, then Crystal Dynamics started this work in the same year, maybe even earlier. One can speculate that the development of this game started in 2021 or even 2020 and will be completed soon.
