The countdown has begun for the second season of Peacemaker, the DC series created by James Gunn. Starring WWE legend John Cena in the lead role, the show also features Jennifer Holland and Freddie Stroma. Following the success of its first season in 2022, which was met with positive reviews from both fans and critics, anticipation is building for what’s next. Most recently, a brand-new trailer has been released ahead of the second season’s debut on August 21 on HBO Max.
Peacemaker Season 2 Trailer Debuts at Comic-Con
James Gunn and the Peacemaker cast appeared at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, taking the stage at Hall H to promote the upcoming season. Attendees were treated to an exclusive look at the new trailer, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of the story.
It has been confirmed that the second season will pick up after the events of Gunn’s Superman film, in which John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith, made a brief appearance.
The new trailer highlights Peacemaker’s struggle to become a true superhero. However, the ghosts of his past won’t be easy to escape. Among the biggest threats he’ll face is Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, who is seeking revenge for the death of his son, Rick Flag Jr.—a key moment from The Suicide Squad.
