A serious warning was made for iPhone users. It was stated that the new malware called SparkCat infiltrated the App Store. Accordingly, the application, which targets users’ cryptocurrency wallets, uses advanced OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology.
Danger of new crypto theft application in App Store
With SparkCat, attackers can authorise users to completely drain their crypto funds. The application performs optical character recognition on images using Google’s library. In this way, it can obtain sensitive data such as passwords, financial information and private messages stored as screenshots on devices.
Users who take photos of their crypto wallet keys, bank details or other private data may risk having their accounts compromised. The worrying thing about the SparkCat campaign is that it managed to infiltrate the App Store.
It should not be forgotten that some dangerous applications are still available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store, which means that thousands of users can be affected. Cyber security experts urge iPhone and Android users to be careful about apps, even if they download them from official app stores.
Previously, a vulnerability was seen in Apple’s ACE3 chip. Researchers revealed that ACE3, introduced with the iPhone 15 series, is not just a power transmission component, but a microcontroller with deep access to the iPhone’s internal systems.
