With the introduction of chat bots such as ChatGPT, educational habits have also changed. Since last year, it has been observed that students have had their homework done by artificial intelligence, ranging from math to literature.
A big increase in the number of people doing homework with ChatGPT
According to a new report by the essay tracking platform Turnitin, students are turning almost entirely to artificial intelligence for their projects. The report revealed that the number of AI-generated assignments is becoming increasingly common.
Of the more than 200 million essays submitted to Turnitin last year, more than 11 percent were found to be AI-generated. At least 20 percent of these papers were found to have AI-authored sections.
The numbers get bigger and bigger every month. For example, it was reported that about 3 percent of all papers had at least 80 percent AI texts. This translates into more than 6 million assignments based on AI tools.
The total proportion of work with AI is relatively small. However, Turnitin also highlighted other studies that point to the use of AI in students’ writing processes. A US study found that almost half of students regularly use chatbots such as ChatGPT.
In addition, three-quarters of US students continue to use ChatGPT despite it being banned in their schools. The report said that AI detection tools could address this problem without outright bans. However, it is thought that homework habits will change over time.
