The 97th Academy Awards (Oscars), one of the most prestigious nights in the world of cinema, were the scene of unforgettable moments. The film Anora won five awards at the ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre, making its mark on the Oscar night. The production directed by Sean Baker became the most awarded production of the night, collecting the awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress.
Sean Baker made history by becoming the first director to win four Oscars with the same film with Anora. The night was hosted by Conan O’Brien, while important announcements were made by Nick Offerman. Hulu, which holds the broadcasting rights of the ceremony, was interrupted at critical moments when the awards were announced due to some technical problems.
The Oscars will witness historic firsts and records in 2025
The 2025 Oscars will be a night that will be remembered with new firsts in the history of cinema. Adrien Brody won the Best Actor award for the second time with his performance in the film The Brutalist, becoming the first actor to win this award twice in a row. Timothée Chalamet was also among his competitors, but Brody won the award.

On the other hand, Paul Tazewell, the costume designer of Wicked, became the first black man to win the Best Costume Design award in Oscar history. The film’s co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo gave the audience an unforgettable performance with Oz-themed songs at the opening of the ceremony.
There was also a first in the animation category. The Latvian production Flow won the Best Animated Feature Film award, becoming the first Latvian film to win this award in Oscar history. Zoe Saldana, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in Emilia Pérez, made history as the first American of Dominican descent to win an Oscar.
In the documentary category, No Other Land won the Best Documentary award. This documentary, a collaboration between Palestinian and Israeli directors, was about displacement processes in the West Bank.
