When asked about the favorite cartoon of those born in the late 90s and early 2000s, a significant majority would probably say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Originally adapted from a comic book and having seen numerous film adaptations over the years, the series has never had a high-budget game until now.
The development of the Ninja Turtles game has been officially announced
An exciting and intriguing trailer has been released for a Ninja Turtles game based on the popular comic series “The Last Ronin.” We say intriguing because the trailer only shows four lit candles, each being extinguished one by one. (You will understand the meaning behind this at the end of our article.)
The trailer’s description reads, “Who is the Last Ronin? In the future, in a war-ravaged New York, the sole surviving Turtle embarks on what seems to be a hopeless mission to seek justice for his fallen family.” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin” is a five-issue comic book series published by IDW Publishing.
The trailer’s description continues as follows: “From the minds of the Ninja Turtles creators and based on the best-selling comic series by Eastman, Waltz, Bishop, Delgado, and the Escorza Brothers: Introducing TMNT: The Last Ronin official game!”
The game is being developed by Black Forest and will be published by THQ Nordic. Black Forest most recently handled the remake of Destroy All Humans 2. That project was a remake, so this Ninja Turtles game will truly showcase the studio’s capabilities for the first time.
According to the trailer, TMNT: The Last Ronin is currently being developed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. There hasn’t been any announcement yet for Nintendo Switch.
The story, written by the series’ creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird along with Tom Waltz, is set in an alternate future where the Foot Clan has successfully taken over New York. Only one of the four Ninja Turtles remains, known as the Last Ronin. He swears to avenge his family, which was tragically taken from him.
