Nintendo’s new-generation game console, the Switch 2, has achieved a significant milestone by selling 1.1 million units in the US in its first week of release. The console has become the fastest-selling game console in the US market as of its launch week. The previous record in this area belonged to the PlayStation 4, which was released in 2013.
Nintendo Switch 2 surpasses PlayStation 4
The Switch 2, which went on sale on June 5, surpassed the launch performance of the first-generation Switch by selling 3.5 million units worldwide in just four days. The console’s accompanying game sales also drew attention.

79 percent of Switch 2 users purchased the game Mario Kart World. This rate showed that the game attracted great interest not only in the bundle but also as a standalone. The second best-selling game was Cyberpunk 2077, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Nintendo has a sales target of 15 million by the end of 2025. The first week figures show that this goal is not unattainable. The sales pace achieved, especially in major markets such as the US, provides a strong forecast for the console’s performance throughout the year.
Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to maintain its sales momentum in line with the initial reactions in the market. The record set in the US already indicates that the console will be one of the strongest players in the 2025 gaming hardware market.
