Nintendo has decided to postpone pre-orders for its long-awaited next-generation Switch 2 console due to new tariffs implemented by the government under US President Donald Trump.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders officially postponed
The pre-order process, which was planned to start on April 9, 2025, has been temporarily suspended while the company evaluates market conditions and the potential impacts of the tariffs. However, no change has been made to the console’s release date of June 5, 2025.

The new tariffs announced by Donald Trump will affect many sectors, especially targeting imports from China. Game consoles, accessories, and other related products will be subject to these new tariffs.
This will increase production costs and cause the consoles’ sales prices to rise. Nintendo stated that it needed additional time to evaluate the current market conditions and the potential impacts of the taxes during this process.
The company previously planned to send priority purchase invitations to certain customers as of May 8, 2025. However, this date has also been postponed due to the new taxes. Nintendo is expected to analyze the full impact of the tariffs and determine a strategy accordingly before reopening pre-orders.
The Switch 2 was set to cost $449.99. However, if new tariffs come into effect, there is a possibility that this price could increase. In addition, the new tariffs could affect not only console prices, but also the prices of games and accessories.
