Nintendo has announced its second-quarter and half-year financial results for 2025. According to the report covering the April-September period, the company’s new console, the Nintendo Switch 2, sold 10.36 million units in its first six months of release.
The Nintendo Switch 2 doubled its predecessor’s sales
This performance surpassed the sales performance of the console’s predecessor, the original Switch, during the same period. The time it took for the new model to reach this level of sales was almost half that of the original Switch.

In addition to the Switch 2’s record-breaking hardware sales, software sales also saw strong growth. Nintendo reported a total of 20.62 million games sold, representing an average of two games purchased per Switch 2 owner.
The console’s launch title, Mario Kart World, alone sold 9.57 million copies, accounting for almost half of total software sales. Donkey Kong Bananza, released this summer, achieved 3.49 million sales in the July-September period.
Following this exceptional performance, Nintendo raised its fiscal year-end sales target from 15 million units to 19 million. This means the Switch 2 is expected to double the sales momentum of the original model even in its first year on the market.
The original Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, sold 1.89 million hardware units and 61.56 million software units during the same six-month period. The outgoing model’s annual sales forecast was lowered from 4.5 million to 4 million, but its software sales target was raised from 105 million to 125 million.
Looking at the overall picture, total Switch sales since March 2017 have surpassed 154 million units. This total continues to make the console the second-best-selling console historically, behind only the PlayStation 2.
If the Switch 2 surpasses the 15 million sales threshold by the end of the year and reaches 19 million by the end of fiscal 2026, it’s clear that it’s on track to become the fastest-growing hardware in the company’s history.
