According to Nintendo’s official announcement, all Nintendo Switch models, including the original Nintendo Switch model, the more compact Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED models with an enhanced display, will be affected by the price hike. The company stated that this increase, which it describes as a system and product family, includes the consoles, along with select accessories and some amiibo figures.
Nintendo Switch and accessories get a price hike!
The products affected by the price increase have been clearly listed:
- Nintendo Switch (Original Model)
- Nintendo Switch OLED
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Select accessories and amiibo
Nintendo also shared some reassuring information for gamers. The Switch 2, which has not yet changed its price, and the physical and digital games released for current and next-generation consoles will not change their prices.
The original Switch is currently priced at $299.99 in the US, the Switch Lite is $199.99, and the Switch OLED model is $349.99.
The first concrete step in the price increase has been taken in Canada. With the new pricing, which went into effect in the country today, the prices of the original Switch and Switch Lite have been increased by 20 Canadian dollars each. The increase for the Switch OLED model is 40 Canadian dollars.
While Nintendo stated that this decision was based on market conditions, the timing is quite significant. This announcement comes just after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing additional tariffs covering more countries. This has led to speculation that rising import costs may be the primary reason behind the price increases.
As the console nears the end of its lifespan and excitement for the Switch 2 grows, it remains to be seen how this price hike will impact consumer demand in the future.
