The Nintendo Switch has received a new system update, version 18.1.0. This update has brought about an interesting change. While updates typically add new features, this time, a feature has been removed. Here is the feature that was removed…
The ‘Upload directly to X (Twitter)’ feature has been removed with the Nintendo Switch update
With the new update, the ability to upload content directly to X (formerly known as Twitter) from the Nintendo Switch has been removed. Users will no longer be able to upload screenshots or video clips directly to X from the Switch. This change was announced in May, and Nintendo has now followed through on this promise.
While the reasons behind this decision are not entirely clear, some economic factors are believed to have played a role. The API usage fees for X, which start at $40,000 per month and go up to $210,000 for premium plans, may have triggered this decision. Additionally, Elon Musk’s moves to open the X platform to adult content could be a reason for Nintendo removing this feature with the update.
Nintendo’s support for sharing content via Facebook is still ongoing, but there is a possibility that this feature may also be removed in the future. There are speculations that these actions are part of Nintendo’s strategy to create its own social media platform in the future. Perhaps a platform similar to the Miiverse from the Wii U era is being planned for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Although Switch users will no longer be able to upload content directly to X, it is still possible to share content. To do this, users will need to transfer the content by wirelessly connecting the Switch to a smartphone or by using a USB cable to connect to a PC.
