As the world of electric cars heats up, companies are exploring different sectors. Previously, Tesla had released interesting products such as whistles, bags and mugs. Now Tesla’s Chinese rival Nio is planning to enter the smartphone business. The first phone will be unveiled in 2023.
Nio gave the message for its first smartphone
Chinese electric vehicle company Nio plans to announce its first phone in the third quarter of 2023. The device, expected to be called Nio Phone, will create new competition in the high-end smartphone market.
Nio CEO William Li first revealed the company’s plans to develop its own smartphone last year. He said it would offer deep integration with electric car models and advanced connectivity features. The Nio Phone recently received regulatory approval in China. So we can say that the device is ready to be sold at least in China.
According to official filings, the Nio Phone will run on Android, have 5G connectivity and dual SIM card slots. The phone’s specifications and design are not yet known. However, the Chinese manufacturer has previously released concept art showing the phone being used in its ES8 SUV.
The Nio Phone could make it possible to connect drivers and passengers. Analysts think it will be incorporated into the company’s in-car artificial intelligence system NOMI and advanced driver assistance system NIO Pilot.
Nio, China’s largest electric carmaker, delivered over 20,000 vehicles in July. The company aims to increase this momentum with models such as the NIO ET5 and ET5 Touring designed for European markets.
