Nothing continues to make a name for itself not only with hardware innovations but also with its rapid action in software updates. Having completed the rollout of Android 16 (Nothing OS 4.0) ahead of its giant competitors, the company is already setting its sights on the next major milestone: Android 17 (Nothing OS 5.0).
Devices That Will Come With Nothing OS 5.0 Have Been Determined
Google is currently conducting public beta testing for Android 17, with a stable release targeted for the summer of 2026. This new version will be blended with Nothing’s unique design language in the Nothing OS 5.0 interface. The company is preparing to bring next-gen smart features and optimized performance to the following models:
- Nothing Phone (4a) and (4a) Pro: These recently introduced price-performance powerhouses, which come with an update guarantee up to Android 19, are at the top of the list.
- Nothing Phone (3) Series: The flagship Phone (3), along with its variants—Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Lite, and Phone (3a) Pro—will fully benefit from all Android 17 innovations.
- Nothing Phone (2a) and (2a) Plus: Last season’s popular mid-range devices will continue to extend their lifecycle and boost performance with this major update.
- CMF Phone 2 Pro: The powerful representative of Nothing’s more accessible sub-brand, CMF, has also secured its place on this elite list.

Time to Say Goodbye to Legends: Which Models Will Not Receive Android 17?
Due to the relentless nature of the tech world, software support cycles eventually come to an end. The iconic Nothing Phone (1), which started the brand’s legacy, and its powerful successor, the Nothing Phone (2), will unfortunately not join this update wave.
Having reached their promised OS update quotas, these devices will now continue solely with security patches. Similarly, the budget-friendly CMF Phone 1 is among the names saying goodbye to major operating system updates. Experts suggest that users who wish to stay current with Android 17’s seamless multitasking, advanced privacy settings, and AI integrations should consider upgrading to the new Phone (4a) series or the high-performance Phone (3).
Following the release of the stable Android 17 build for Pixel devices in June 2026, Nothing is expected to complete its optimizations and roll out Nothing OS 5.0 gradually to end-users in the fourth quarter of 2026. Are you a user of the legendary Phone (1) or Phone (2)? How do you feel about the end of their OS support? Share your thoughts in the comments!
