A manufacturing defect in NVIDIA’s latest-generation RTX 5090, RTX 5090D, and RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards has caused confusion among users. The issue, which involves missing render output units (ROPs), affects a small percentage of cards, leading to a minor 4% performance drop in rendering tasks. However, NVIDIA assures that AI and computational workloads remain unaffected.
NVIDIA Confirms Manufacturing Defect in RTX 5090, 5090D, and 5070 Ti
NVIDIA’s Global PR Director, Ben Berraondo, confirmed that only 0.5% of the affected GPUs have this issue. Popular third-party brands such as Zotac, MSI, Gigabyte, and Manli, along with NVIDIA’s Founders Edition cards, are also impacted.

Users can check for the missing ROPs using the GPU-Z software. Those with affected units can request a free replacement from their respective manufacturers.
NVIDIA stated that the issue has been resolved, and newly manufactured cards will not be affected. However, this incident adds to previous concerns about driver issues and melting power connectors, raising further questions about quality control.
