While the long-awaited major battery technology revolution in the smartphone world hasn’t materialized, manufacturers are instead offering ultra-fast charging and software-based energy-saving solutions.
One UI 8.5 Restricts Network Usage
Samsung, following this approach, is introducing a new solution for battery saving with the One UI 8.5 user interface. As One UI 8.5 nears its final phase, new leaks indicate that Samsung is introducing a feature to restrict network usage using an AI model.

According to this information leaked from beta testing on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the new feature, called “Network Energy Saver,” focuses on network usage. It uses the same principle as the Now Brief feature featured in the Galaxy S25 series.
At the heart of the feature is an AI model called “Personal Data Analysis.” This AI model analyzes the user’s behavior to learn when they put their phone into standby mode, when they go to sleep, or when they wake up.
When the phone is idle, the AI model limits background network usage, thus saving energy. Users are also given the option to disable this new feature at any time.
This new energy-saving solution will first be available with the Galaxy S26 series. This suggests that future Galaxy phones won’t experience significant battery growth.
Furthermore, it’s been reported that the Personal Data Analysis model is not compatible with previous series like the Galaxy S23. Therefore, the Network Energy Saver feature is expected to be compatible with devices from the Galaxy S24 series and later.
