China-based DeepSeek launched the DeepSeek R1 artificial intelligence model with 50 thousand graphics cards as of yesterday, despite all NVIDIA embargoes. Sam Altman, CEO of US artificial intelligence company OpenAI, made a DeepSeek statement.
Sam Altman: DeepSeek is an impressive model for the price
Yesterday, after DeepSeek released the DeepSeek R1 AI model with lower cost and resource consumption, the stock market and social media started talking about DeepSeek. The DeepSeek effect started to spread like a wind in the US stock market and the share values of technology companies such as Microsoft, AMD, Google, Tesla and Netflix, especially NVIDIA, started to fall. Only Apple managed to increase its share value by 3 percent. While a statement was expected from NVIDIA, which embargoed China, the statement came from Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, said on X (formerly Twitter) that Deepseek’s r1 is an impressive model, especially for the price point. We will of course offer much better models and it’s also really refreshing to have a new competitor! But mostly we are excited to continue implementing our research roadmap and believe that more computation is more important than ever to achieve our mission. The world will want to use a lot of AI and will be really surprised by the next generation of models. We look forward to taking you all to AGI and beyond.
Altman’s statement that we will release some versions may indicate that it could be Model o3, the new artificial intelligence model that OpenAI is expected to introduce in the coming weeks. However, according to rumors, the difference between OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DeepSeek R1 is that DeepSeek uses about 10 percent of its resources to compete with ChatGPT in this race. In addition, the fact that DeepSeek is both open-source and free has enabled the mobile application of the artificial intelligence robot to rise to the first place in the App Store.
