The US Department of Justice has entered a critical phase in the monopolisation case against Google. While it is stated that Google may face structural sanctions due to its non-competitive practices in the online search market, the sale of the Chrome browser, one of the company’s biggest products, has come to the fore.
OpenAI wants to buy the Chrome browser
While the possibility of sale has started to be seriously discussed, it has been revealed that OpenAI, one of the leading companies in the field of artificial intelligence, is favourable to this opportunity. ChatGPT product manager Nick Turley announced that they could step in if Chrome is sold.

OpenAI already enables ChatGPT to interact with users through the Chrome extension. However, it is stated that if Chrome comes completely under the roof of OpenAI, this integration can offer a much more advanced artificial intelligence experience.
The company aims for a transformation that can redefine users’ browser experience. Features such as real-time content summarisation, web redirects based on user intent and accuracy checks can be moved directly to the browser level with such an integration.
Google was recently found guilty in a monopolisation case involving the advertising industry. These two separate lawsuits indicate that the company may lose some of its assets in the future or may have to make radical changes in its business structure.
However, the acquisition of the Chrome browser by OpenAI may bring a new monopoly debate. So what do you think about this issue? You can easily share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
