Artificial intelligence leader OpenAI is preparing to launch a brand-new subscription tier for its popular chatbot. This new ChatGPT subscription, reportedly named “ChatGPT Pro Lite,” has been discovered by software developers directly within the web application’s source code, priced at $100 per month.
What Does the New ChatGPT Subscription Offer?
OpenAI currently provides a range of plans, including Free, Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise. However, the significant price jump from the standard Plus plan to the $200 Pro plan has been a point of contention for many professionals. This new mid-tier package aims to provide an ideal solution for freelancers, researchers, and developers who require a higher usage quota but do not wish to pay the full $200.

While positioned a step below the top-tier Pro version, the new package offers features far superior to the Plus subscription. Leaked source code indicates that the Pro Lite plan will increase the usage quota for the deep reasoning model by three to five times compared to the standard version. Additionally, this new subscription will directly support the use of Codex, the code-writing assistant, making it a powerful tool for developers.
Navigating Competition and Rising Costs
Despite generating substantial revenue, OpenAI is reportedly facing a significant financial loss for the year due to escalating operational costs. The AI sector is also becoming increasingly competitive, with rivals like Gemini 3 and Claude 4 rapidly gaining market share in both enterprise and mobile sectors. Therefore, this new pricing strategy serves a dual purpose for OpenAI. It helps to offset the rising costs of hardware and processing while simultaneously establishing a dominant position in the mid-range market against its competitors.
