Art of Rally carved out a niche with its clean visuals and sneaky depth. Now, Funselektor’s taking the scenic route again. Their new title Over the Hill trades rally racing for rugged off-road exploration, and it’s officially set to hit the Switch 2 next year.
Over the Hill drives off the beaten path

This isn’t your average car game. Over the Hill is all about tackling nature’s nastier corners with retro machines that look like they’ve seen things. You’ll get behind the wheel of iconic vehicles from the ’60s to the ’80s and cruise through snowy rivers, rocky climbs, and other unfriendly terrain.
You can go solo or buddy up with three friends for a co-op adventure, using winches, ropes, and a bit of patience to keep everyone rolling. The terrain deforms as you drive, the weather changes on a whim, and the day-night cycle keeps everything unpredictable and gorgeous.
Key features that set Over the Hill apart
Here’s what to expect when the game hits:
- Drive classic off-roaders solo or with friends
- Traverse biomes from icy mountains to deep valleys
- Unlock new vehicles, upgrades, and cosmetic gear
- Discover fast-travel portals and secret areas
- Set up camp after tough treks
- Snap dramatic shots in photo mode
- Watch the world shift with dynamic weather and lighting
The Switch 2 could fix Funselektor’s biggest visual hurdle
One of the few complaints Art of Rally faced was the watered-down look of its Switch version. But with Over the Hill launching on Nintendo’s more powerful Switch 2, that might be a thing of the past. If the trailer’s any indication, the cel-shaded style remains as clean and bold as ever, and better hardware should help it shine even brighter.
Physical edition coming soon
There’s no locked-in release date yet, but a physical edition is already confirmed. The premium version will come packed with a soundtrack download and even a window cling, leaning into the retro vibes hard.
Funselektor’s found its groove, equal parts serene and stubborn. If Art of Rally was a Sunday spin, Over the Hill looks like a wild weekend escape, dirt and all.
