Artificial intelligence company Perplexity has announced a new tool called “Perplexity Patents.” This tool aims to revolutionize the patent search process. Finding patents is often a long, complex, and imperfect process for developers, innovators, and researchers. Perplexity Patents is designed to speed up this process and make it more accessible. The tool is currently in beta and is available free of charge to all users.
Perplexity Patents Launched: The Era of Free Patent Search Using Natural Language Has Begun
Traditional patent search methods are quite challenging. A searcher must use multiple tools, such as Google Patents or the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), to find patents in a specific field. Furthermore, achieving accurate results on these platforms often requires using specific keywords, classification codes, or complex query strings. In fact, complete accuracy often requires relying on a patent attorney.

Perplexity Patents overcomes these challenges using artificial intelligence. Launched on Thursday, Perplexity’s AI-powered database uses natural language to help users find the patents they are looking for. This makes the patent database more democratic for everyone. The Perplexity team states that this new tool heralds a new era in which anyone can access patent intelligence and quickly obtain clear answers.
Users can now ask Perplexity Patents questions in everyday language, rather than complex queries filled with specialized keywords or classification codes. For example, a user could ask a simple question like, “Are there any patents on AI for language learning?” Similarly, a more general search approach could be adopted, such as, “What are the most prominent quantum computing patents since 2024?” AI understands these natural language questions and finds relevant patents.
This new free tool from Perplexity appears poised to significantly simplify the patent search process, especially for entrepreneurs and inventors. What are your thoughts on AI simplifying complex technical processes? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
