Qualcomm and Google have decided to extend the software support period offered to Android devices. This partnership, which specifically targets devices with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, promises users a much longer software life.
A revolution in Android update support from Qualcomm and Google
According to official statements, thanks to this partnership, phone manufacturers will be able to offer Android operating system and security updates for 8 years to their models running the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.

This means a great advancement for users compared to the software support period that usually varies between 3 and 5 years today. It should be noted that even Samsung offers 7 years of support for its latest flagship models.
It was also reported that the Galaxy S25 series will benefit from the new partnership and receive 8 years of software support. The Galaxy S24 series, on the other hand, is excluded from the new program because it uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. However, it should be remembered that such promises have mostly remained as marketing strategies in the past and have not fully reflected user satisfaction.
Qualcomm and Google’s new project also aims to provide solutions to manufacturer problems. Devices that will be released with Snapdragon 8 Elite and Android 15 are expected to receive support for 8 years. This support will also be offered to Qualcomm’s next 5-generation processors, namely Snapdragon 8 and 7 series chips.
