Although it is thought that the App Store is more secure than the Google Play Store, this is not exactly the case. Today, no application store is completely safe, and in some cases, pirated or trojan applications can be overlooked. We can say that the pirated movie application, which entered the App Store as a vision test application and managed to become one of the most downloaded ones in a short time, is a new example of these.
A pirated movie-watching application called Kimi has become one of the most downloaded apps on the App Store
According to the information provided by The Verge, the pirated movie-watching software called Kimi somehow managed to pass the App Store controls as a “vision test application”. One of the most striking details here is that the developer designed the application in a way that directly displays pirated TV shows and movies when opened. In other words, there is no hiding in its interface or design.
Kimi’s description on the App Store said there were functions that tested vision abilities, such as finding the differences between two images, but the app had nothing to do with these. Users showed such interest in the software that Kimi managed to climb to number eight on the App Store’s list of top free entertainment apps.
Apple took action after the issue went viral and removed Kimi, which has been in use since September, from the App Store. Considering the fake LastPass application that broke out in recent weeks, users have questions about App Store controls.
