According to a hardware and software survey conducted on the Steam platform as of August 2024 , Windows 11 users have surpassed Windows 10 users for the first time. Windows 11 reached a 50.81% market share among Windows users on Steam, an increase of 3.36% compared to the previous month. It seems that gamers are rapidly abandoning Windows 10.
Windows 11 users on Steam outspend Windows 10 for the first time
Looking at the overall picture in the Steam survey, Windows 10 lost 3.29% of its market share, falling from 51.95% to 48.66%. Older versions such as Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 continue to experience a decline in the number of users.
Microsoft’s decision to discontinue support for older versions has accelerated users’ transition to Windows 10 or Windows 11. Additionally, the most common memory configuration among Steam users is 16 GB, accounting for 47.35% of users.
This rate was observed to have increased by 1.50% compared to the previous month. The rate of those using 32 GB memory increased to 30.76%, while the rate of those using 8 GB memory decreased to 10.16%. Among the languages used on the Steam platform, Simplified Chinese was the most common language with 35.97%.
The rate of English users dropped to 29.79%. Turkish usage dropped to 1.16%. If we evaluate the results, we see that users are abandoning old versions and the Windows 11 operating system is rapidly gaining popularity.
