After introducing PlayStation models, Sony has not neglected to update the gaming console over the years. This trend continues with the PlayStation 5 model. Released in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has seen both hardware and software updates over time. The latest update focuses on the audio system.
PlayStation 5 is getting Dolby Atmos support
With an upcoming update expected to be released soon, the PlayStation 5 will bring Dolby Atmos support to users. Those with a compatible speaker system will be able to enjoy 5.1 or 7.1 Dolby Atmos sound output with the new generation PS5.
Owners of PS5 with such a setup will be able to get even better sound from their systems through the upcoming update. Currently in beta, the update will add Dolby Atmos feature to the 3D Audio supported by Tempest 3D AudioTech technology.
Previously, the company offered this feature for compatible headphones, and now they are extending the immersive sound system to speakers, making gaming experiences much more enjoyable. Thus, PS5 owners will be able to enjoy three-dimensional sound while playing games.
Sony has already made the Dolby Atmos audio feature available to beta users starting from July 31. However, a specific date for the general release of this new update has not been provided. But usually, beta versions are made available for general use after about one month.
Meanwhile, Sony is also preparing a significant hardware update for the PlayStation 5 model. The company aims to improve the new generation PlayStation 5 in all aspects, planning to release it in 2024. Sony will equip the gaming console with a new and more efficient processor based on the 5 nm manufacturing process and is also reevaluating the cooling system for the new PS5 model.
The Japanese manufacturer aims to maintain the PlayStation 5‘s competitiveness in the gaming console market through these updates. What are your thoughts on the PS5 and the new update? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
