Sony has announced a price update for PlayStation 5 in Japan. This marks the second time in a year that the company has raised the price of its next-generation console at home. Sony cited the current fluctuations in the global economic situation as the reason for the price increase.

The price increases will take effect on September 2nd. Accordingly, the PS5 Disc version will increase from $465 to $550. This means an increase of approximately 90 dollars. The digital version will go from $417 to $507.
This is the second price increase since the PS5 launched in Japan. Both console versions have increased in price by more than $200 compared to their original stickers. In no other region has the system seen a price increase of this magnitude.
Of course, this price increase is exclusive to Japan for now. In other words, the prices of consoles in regions such as Europe have not changed. However, it is not known whether Sony will extend the price update to other countries.
Sony also confirmed that PS5 accessories, including DualSense and PlayStation VR2, will be more expensive. With the lack of promotions, it’s safe to say that the costs for gamers are getting higher and higher.
