The gaming world is awash with the most detailed leaks yet regarding the next-generation consoles. YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) has revealed the highly anticipated specs, estimated prices, and release dates of both the PlayStation 6 and a new PlayStation portable console codenamed “Project Canis,” based on an AMD presentation purportedly dated 2023. These claims offer exciting clues about Sony’s future vision.
What will the PlayStation 6 be like?
According to the leaked information, Sony is aiming to make a revolutionary leap in performance while reducing power consumption for the PlayStation 6 to an even more efficient level than the current generation. At the heart of the console is reportedly eight next-generation Zen 6 cores operating at clock speeds exceeding 3 GHz. On the graphics side, there will be between 40 and 48 RDNA 5 Compute Units, which appears to be fewer than the PS5 Pro.

However, thanks to the increased efficiency and higher clock speeds afforded by the RDNA 5 architecture, this GPU is expected to deliver significantly superior performance. Memory technology will also see a major leap forward, featuring much faster GDDR7 chips. These memory modules will offer bandwidth ranging from 640 GB/s to 768 GB/s, significantly higher than the PS5 Pro, opening up tremendous potential for game developers.
The performance targets are jaw-dropping. The PlayStation 6 is expected to be over three times more powerful in raw processing power than the standard PS5 and approximately twice as powerful as the newly introduced PS5 Pro. This puts the console roughly on par with a GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card. The real revolution, however, will reportedly come in ray tracing technology, which is expected to deliver a massive 6- to 10-fold performance increase.
This leap could make in-game lighting and reflections more realistic than ever before. The console, which will reportedly maintain full backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games, is expected to launch in late 2027 or early 2028 at a competitive price of $499.
Leaks aren’t limited to the main console. Sony is also rumored to be making a bold return to the market with a powerful portable console codenamed “Project Canis.” This device, with its ability to run both PS4 and PS5 games, is rumored to be capable of completely disrupting the market.
The device, which will be powered by a modern chipset featuring four Zen 6C cores and up to 20 RDNA 5 Processing Units, is reportedly expected to feature features such as haptic feedback, M.2 SSD support, and USB-C with video output. This portable console, expected to launch around the same time as the PlayStation 6, is expected to cost between $400 and $500.
On the other front of the competition, it appears Microsoft’s response will be imminent. It’s being claimed that the next-generation Xbox, codenamed “Magnus,” aims to gain a market advantage by launching before the PS6. This strategy brings to mind the era of Microsoft’s highly successful Xbox 360, which launched a year before the PS3. Leaked information also suggests that the new Xbox will be more powerful than the PS5 Pro but won’t directly compete with the PS6, and that it shouldn’t be expected before 2027.
While there’s no official confirmation yet, these leaks foreshadow the exciting prospects for the gaming world in 2027-2028. It appears the next-generation console wars will be even fiercer, fueled by both increased performance and innovative devices.
