PlayStation’s new live service game, Fairgame$, has been postponed in a surprising move. Originally planned for release in 202, the game has been postponed until 2026. This decision comes at a time of turmoil in Sony’s strategy for live service games.
PlayStation puts brakes on live service games: Fairgame$ postponed to 2026
The recent huge disappointment of Concord and Sony’s cancellation of half of its planned live service games show that the company’s approach in this area has changed. The new strategy, which led to studio closures and project cancellations, is generally considered a failed attempt.
While Helldivers 2 is a successful example, failures like Concord have scuttled Sony’s live service plans. According to industry analyst Jeff Grubb, the postponement of Fairgame$ is an indication that Sony is taking a more cautious approach to live service games.
Grubb stated in his statement that Fairgame$ will not be released in 2025 and has been postponed to 2026. Although Sony is confident in the new game, this postponement decision is not surprising.
Previous reports indicated that the company invested a total of $400 million, but despite this, it was not successful. The latest reports emphasize that half of this amount was invested.
Fairgame$, the details of which are not yet known, is being developed by Haven Interactive. The game, which is said to have a heist theme, seems to feature different characters by making a crossover with popular games.
