U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a significant step regarding tariffs imposed on Chinese goods. Just days ago, Trump had announced a 145% tariff on products originating from China. However, following widespread criticism, the U.S. administration decided to exempt smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices from the additional tariffs.
Donald Trump grants tax exemption on electronic products
As part of the new regulation, items such as smartphones, laptops, computer processors, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment are now exempt from these tariffs. This development provides considerable relief for companies like Apple and Samsung. The exemptions are also expected to curb potential price increases in the consumer electronics market.

It has also been noted that the exemptions might be temporary. While electronic devices could be subject to different tariffs in the future, those taxes are projected to remain at significantly lower levels.
This decision holds particular importance for Apple, as a large portion of its products are manufactured in China. Lifting the additional tariffs presents a substantial financial advantage for the company.
Dan Ives, Head of Global Technology Research at Wedbush Securities, described the decision as “a dream scenario” for the tech sector. He stated that exempting smartphones and chips from tariffs could be a game-changer in the ongoing U.S.-China trade war.
It can be said that this decision has lifted the dark cloud hanging over the tech industry. What are your thoughts on this? Feel free to share them with us in the comments section below.
