Sony just confirmed a PS5 price hike across its entire lineup, and it’s taking effect faster than fans might expect. Starting tomorrow, every version of the PlayStation 5 will cost $50 more, with the company blaming tariffs and broader economic strain for the change.
PS5 price hike affects all three models

In a statement posted to Sony’s official blog, the company cited the “challenging economic environment,” including tariffs from the Trump administration, as the reason for the increase. It’s not a small adjustment either.
Here are the new prices Sony listed:
- PlayStation 5: $549.99
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition: $499.99
- PlayStation 5 Pro: $749.99
The company clarified that pricing for accessories, such as controllers and headsets, will remain the same for now.
This isn’t Sony’s first hardware increase in 2025
Back in April, Sony raised the PS5’s price in markets like the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. At the time, it was unclear whether a US price shift would follow. By May, the company acknowledged it was reviewing options in light of rising import costs, and now, that review has become a reality.
This PS5 price hike marks the first major US increase since launch.
Console prices are rising across the board
Sony isn’t alone here. Microsoft recently bumped up the cost of its Xbox Series X digital edition to $549.99, and also raised prices on several accessories. Nintendo followed suit with a $40 increase on the original Switch and higher costs for Switch accessories, all ahead of the Switch 2’s expected launch.
The result? No matter your platform of choice, console gaming just got more expensive.
Retailers already reflect the shift
Major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy are adjusting their listings. At press time, some still showed lower prices, but those are expected to update in the next 24 hours.
If you’re shopping for a PS5 now, don’t expect a last-minute deal. The new pricing is rolling out fast, and it’s not likely to reverse anytime soon.
