Sony is rolling out the groundbreaking PS5 Pro PSSR Technology, a significant update aimed at fundamentally improving game resolution and frame rates for the next-generation console. This new system, introduced by Mark Cerny, promises to deliver a new standard in visual quality and performance by keeping frame rates and image quality simultaneously at their highest levels.
How PS5 Pro PSSR Technology Redefines Gaming Graphics
The first title to take full advantage of this new system is the newly released Resident Evil Requiem. The Advanced PSSR Technology sets a new benchmark in the gaming world by analyzing pixels individually and completely overhauling its neural networks and algorithms. This allows for a more detailed and fluid visual experience than ever before on a console.

Masaru Ijuin from Capcom explains in detail the impact of the updated system on the game engine. The new infrastructure directly processes the main character’s hair and beard strands as individual polygons. Consequently, their reactions to wind and body movements reach a completely realistic dimension. The angle at which light filters through the hair strands changes instantly based on their overlap. The successful processing of these complex details, which are traditionally difficult to upscale, directly enhances the depth of the horror atmosphere.
Collaboration with AMD and System-Wide Update
The algorithms and neural networks used in the new infrastructure are based on the Project Amethyst partnership with AMD. The innovations experienced by PC gamers with FSR 4 hardware are being integrated into the PS5 Pro system after an additional six-month enhancement process. Furthermore, a system update scheduled for March will add an “Enhance Image Quality with PSSR” option to the settings menu for all supported games. When this feature is activated, graphics become noticeably sharper and smoother.
