New information has emerged regarding a major update Sony is planning for the PlayStation 5 Pro in 2026. According to leaks from the company’s engineering team, this update will be released in May 2026.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will be updated for GTA 6.
The main goal of the update is to enhance the PS5 Pro’s visual quality and system performance. While it has not yet been officially announced by Sony, sources suggest the update includes a comprehensive performance boost. PlayStation’s chief architect, Mark Cerny, recently announced in an interview that FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) technology will be integrated into the PS5 Pro.

Cerny stated that this technology will provide a significant graphical improvement over the current PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. He also emphasized that FSR 4, developed by AMD, will not be a stripped-down version exclusive to consoles but will directly implement the full algorithm used in the PC version.
This integration of AMD’s latest graphics upscaling technology into the PS5 Pro will allow for more efficient use of the console’s hardware potential. This development demonstrates Sony’s commitment to improving console performance.
Cerny also provided information about the new GPU architectures it is working on with AMD. He stated that, in addition to RDNA 5, it is actively involved in a next-generation architecture he calls “UDNA.” He stated that these efforts could benefit not only PlayStation but all devices that could join the AMD ecosystem.
According to Cerny’s statements, there are no restrictions on the use of the architectural designs being developed. This paves the way for the technologies developed to be used on different platforms in the future.
While the company has not officially announced a May 2026 release date, information from Sony’s engineering team indicates that the PS5 Pro is continuing to develop. This new step in image processing technologies, in particular, raises expectations for the console’s performance in future games.
