PUBG Netflix Series: Donald Glover to Star in Live-Action Show

A PUBG Netflix series is officially in development, with Donald Glover set to direct, write, executive produce and star in a live-action adaptation of Krafton’s battle royale hit. Krafton announced the project on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and confirmed that Glover’s brother and longtime collaborator Stephen Glover will join as a writer and executive producer. No release date, cast list or plot details have been shared yet, according to Krafton’s official announcement.
Who Is Making the PUBG Netflix Series?
Glover, a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner best known for Atlanta and Community, leads the creative side. Alongside the Glover brothers, the series will be executive produced by Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, Krafton’s entertainment subsidiary that handles film and TV projects based on the PUBG franchise.
According to Deadline, the project came together after lengthy negotiations, with Netflix bringing Glover on board. Glover signed an exclusive overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios in 2021, but that pact has since been turned into a first-look deal, which leaves him free to work with other studios.
A Game With No Story to Adapt
The biggest open question is what the show will actually be about. PUBG, originally titled PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, launched in 2017 and helped turn battle royale into a mainstream genre. As Variety points out, the game has no plot: up to 100 players parachute onto an island, scavenge for weapons and vehicles, and fight until one player or team is left standing. That gives Glover a blank canvas, and plot details are still under wraps.
Krafton says PUBG holds seven Guinness World Records, and the game is still updated regularly on PC and consoles, as seen in recent patches like the PUBG 42.2 update. The company first announced plans for a PUBG film and TV series in 2020, and an animated series from Castlevania producer Adi Shankar was announced for Netflix in 2021.
Netflix Keeps Betting on Video Game Adaptations
The PUBG show joins a long list of game adaptations in the works at Netflix, including a live-action Assassin’s Creed series, a live-action Gears of War film and animated series based on Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans. Other studios are chasing the same trend, with CD Projekt Red also developing a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film.
For players, the announcement mainly signals that Krafton wants PUBG to become a long-term entertainment brand rather than just a game. With no premiere window yet, it will likely be a while before the first footage appears, but a creator like Glover makes this one of the more interesting game-to-screen projects to watch.
