Google and Qualcomm announced that Android devices powered by Snapdragon 8 and 7 series processors will now receive Android updates and security patches for 8 years. Therefore, users will receive updates for longer and will not need to change phones. Here are the details
Qualcomm and Google to offer expanded software update support
According to Qualcomm’s announcement, the long-term update support already offered to devices with Snapdragon 8 Elite chips is now being extended to all Snapdragon 8 and 7 series processor phones. Previously, Samsung and Google Pixel models received software support for 8 years, but with the new development, other Android manufacturers will also be able to offer long-term support.

It’s worth noting that the implementation of these updates is entirely at the discretion of the manufacturers. So not every phone brand may adopt this policy. Qualcomm and Google intend to increase the sustainability of Android devices and ensure that users keep their devices up to date for many years.
Chris Patrick, head of Qualcomm’s mobile division, stated that this development will create a major change in the Android ecosystem and give manufacturers more flexibility. However, while it is technically possible, it is still unclear whether phone manufacturers will actually offer this 8-year support.
Do you think this move will make a big difference to the Android ecosystem? Will manufacturers really support updates for 8 years, or will most brands ignore this opportunity? You can write your opinions in the comments section below…
