Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon shared the company’s vision for 6G technology at the Snapdragon event held in Maui, Hawaii. While 4G LTE and 5G standards continue to be used today, 6G will usher in a new era with significantly higher speeds and lower latency. However, according to Amon, the first 6G-enabled devices will be available in at least three years and will not initially be aimed at end-users.
Qualcomm Will Boost Speed with 6G
Qualcomm is positioning 6G not only as a faster connection but also as the infrastructure for the AI era. Amon stated that future devices will require more powerful modems, entirely new memory architectures, and advanced neural processing units (NPUs) to handle the increasing data load. This will enable devices ranging from smartphones to augmented reality glasses to utilize AI features more effectively.

Amon stated, “Data volume will dwarf the existence of models,” adding that connectivity and processing power will be the most critical factors in the coming era. The company anticipates 6G to be commercialized and available to consumers around 2028.
Qualcomm’s approach marks a significant leap forward in both mobile communications and new AI-enabled devices.
