Paving the way for affordable flagships: Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 announced!
Qualcomm has officially announced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, which will pave the way for affordable flagship smartphones. The biggest difference with the new processor is that it stays loyal to the old Kryo CPU architecture instead of using the company’s own developed Oryon cores. Despite this, Qualcomm promises up to 49 percent performance improvement compared to the previous generation and various enhancements.
What does Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 offer?
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is manufactured using a 4nm fabrication process. Going through TSMC’s N4P process, the processor will remain at a lower level than the Snapdragon 8 Elite in terms of efficiency. On the other hand, it comes with a 1+3+2+2 core cluster.
The most powerful core of the chipset operates at 3.20 GHz, while the performance cores run at 3.00 GHz speeds. Although the name of its GPU has not been disclosed yet, it is stated that it will provide 49 percent better graphics performance compared to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Moreover, we can say that a 31 percent increase in CPU performance has been achieved compared to its predecessor.
The processor also works 39 percent more efficiently than the previous model. Additionally, it has direct Bluetooth 6.0 support, UFS 4.0, LPDDR5X RAM running at 4,800MHz, and Wi-Fi 7 support.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 also has artificial intelligence capabilities. Thanks to its new NPU, it offers up to 44 percent better performance to users. Additionally, it can support a single camera sensor of up to 320 MP and has details such as 8K HDR video playback at 60 FPS and 4K HDR video recording at 60 FPS.
