We mostly know semiconductor giant Qualcomm as a mobile processor manufacturer. However, the company unveiled its first laptop processor, the Snapdragon X Elite, at an event in Hawaii on October 24, 2023. It was even rumored that this Arm-based processor will compete with Apple’s M series. So how does the Snapdragon X Elite perform in gaming? Tested.
How does Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite perform for gaming?
Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, which is said to be twice as powerful as Intel 13th generation Core i7-1360P and i7-1355U processors, is manufactured with TSMC’s 4-nanometer architecture. While the processor’s standard clock speed is 3.8 GHz, this speed increases to 4.3 GHz with dual cores. Snapdragon X Elite, which is also an advanced chipset in terms of artificial intelligence, puts Qualcomm in competition with Apple, Intel and AMD, the biggest processor manufacturers. But does this competition extend to gaming?
Creator Devin Arthur played Baldur’s Gate 3 on a laptop powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor. The video Arthur shared shows that the game can be played at 30 frames per second (30 FPS) at 1080p resolution. You might think that’s low, but there’s an important point.
This important point is that Baldur’s Gate 3 is not optimized for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite. Despite this, the processor was praised by users for enabling 30 FPS gameplay. Moreover, Qualcomm didn’t even claim that the chipset would perform well in games.
As you know, manufacturers promise high gaming performance with every new processor model. In this context, expectations are high for the Snapdragon X Elite.
