About two weeks ago, Tez2, a reliable source on Rockstar’s games, revealed that Red Dead Redemption had been spotted on Rockstar’s PC client. This data included the popular zombie-themed expansion pack Undead Nightmare, raising hopes that the game was coming to PC. However, Tez2 clarified this with a new statement on the GTA forums.
Red Dead Redemption PC port delayed?
According to Tez2, the appearance of Red Dead Redemption data in the PC client is the result of Rockstar working on a new branch. This new branch went live about a month and a half ago, and the May 14 update was based on it. The source of this misunderstanding is that the data was accidentally pushed to the public branch.
Tez2 said that this data shows that Rockstar is planning a PC port, but that it won’t happen anytime soon. So, just because the game data was found doesn’t mean it’s coming to PC right away. This shows that everyone is jumping to hasty conclusions. Rockstar has yet to make an official statement on this.
Rockstar recently shook the expectations of gamers and analysts by announcing that GTA 6 would be released later than expected. While this may lower hopes for the PC port of Red Dead Redemption, it could mean that Rockstar is taking the necessary precautions to make a quality port.
The re-release of Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 was handled by British port studio Double Eleven. The studio has a proven track record of successful ports of other games. Given the high standards set by PlayStation and Xbox for PC ports, Rockstar is aiming to bring the PC version of Red Dead Redemption up to those standards.
Even if we have to wait, hopes are high that Rockstar will make the most of this time and deliver the final version of Red Dead Redemption. Maybe they will meet the expectations of players with a DRM-free port. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
