While ASUS’s new handheld console, the ROG Ally X, ships with Windows 11, tests have shown the device’s true potential on a different operating system. The highly anticipated ROG Ally X’s Linux performance significantly surpassed Windows 11 with Bazzite OS.
ROG Ally X Linux performance revealed in tests
YouTube creator Cyber Dopamine tested a custom Linux-based operating system called Bazzite on the device. Similar to SteamOS, Bazzite promises a smoother experience with its controller-friendly interface and low system load. Indeed, the test results confirmed this claim.
Linux performance was notable in the benchmarks. For example, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II achieved an average of 47 FPS on Windows 11 at 17W power, while it reached 62 FPS on Linux. This represents a significant performance increase of approximately 30%.
A similar pattern was observed in Hogwarts Legacy. The device achieved 50 FPS on Windows 11 in 17W mode, while on Linux, it delivered a much smoother frame rate of 62 FPS. While the difference narrows in high-power mode (35W), Linux reportedly delivers more stable frame rates. Therefore, despite the powerful hardware, Windows optimizations appear to still lag behind solutions like SteamOS.
