Foldable smartphone models are a trend now. We have already seen few models, such as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. But we haven’t seen any foldable iPhone models from Apple. The foldable iPhone might be released in a couple of years
A new report suggests that the foldable iPhone won’t land before 2025 at the earliest, but before that, we might see a foldable iPad in 2024. So whether it is named as iPhone Flip, iPhone Fold or a totally different name, it looks like we won’t see it anytime soon. Also, Apple’s foldable phone patents and concept art from independent designers show that Apple is really well prepared with the product.
Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight, argues that a foldable tablet makes more sense for Apple than a foldable phone. Ben Wood, told CNBC that there are two reasons for this. Firstly, a foldable iPhone “would have to be incredibly expensive in order to not cannibalize the existing iPhones,” with the predicted price of at least $2,500 (around £2,220 / AU$3,970). Also, a report from Ming-Chi Kuo states that a foldable iPhone may not arrive until 2025.
Foldable iPhone might have a larger display than Galaxy Z Fold 4
Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the first foldable iPhone will have a display measuring 8 inches. That would be larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which offers a 7.6-inch display when it’s opened up. Kuo also said that Apple’s thinking about using color e-ink displays for the exterior display on foldables. This kind of screen would be great for keeping battery consumption low.
According to Jon Prosser, Apple has tested two different kinds of iPhone Flip: a fold-out hybrid tablet, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold lineup, and a clamshell flip phone design akin to the Galaxy Z Flip range.
