Competition in the smartphone arena is heating up as battery life becomes even more critical. Chinese manufacturers are setting a new standard with batteries exceeding 7000 mAh, challenging industry giants Samsung and Apple.
Samsung and Apple are fighting back against their Chinese rivals
Both tech giants are investing heavily in research and development to improve battery technology. It is known that Samsung is focusing on developing next generation battery materials. Samsung is reportedly focusing on improving anode and cathode materials, especially by increasing the silicon content for more capacity.
Apple is also pursuing advances in battery technology, but it is said to be applicable for iPhone after 2026. Samsung’s strategy for distributing its new batteries also remains unclear. It is not yet clear whether the advanced technology will only be rolled out to premium devices or to a wider range of products.
The demand for smartphones with large batteries, especially in the budget-friendly market, is fueling this technology race. Samsung and Apple are trying to maintain their competitiveness against the battery strategies of Chinese phone manufacturers. Of course, it is unclear when these efforts will be applied to iPhone and affordable Galaxy phones.
Although it is too early to say for sure, it is clear that Apple wants to excite users again in the iPhone 17 series. In this sense, the previously revealed Google Pixel-like horizontal camera design may appear with iPhone 17 and 17 Slim.
